An Alternative Technique for Analyzing System Paging Workloads

چکیده

The presentaflon of paging data to management in an easily understood form has been a persistent problem. This paper examines a graphical technique for-presenting paging data activity as a relative fraction of the system's total I/O activity. This technique will also be used to comment on the benefits of paging into Expanded Storage on the new IBM 3090 series of processors.

Estimating the Fault Rate Function

Paging activity can be a major factor in determining whether a software workload will run on a given computer system. A program’s paging behavior is difficult to predict because it depends not only on the workload processed by the program, but also on the level of storage contention of the processor. A program’s fault rate function relates storage allocation to the page fault rate experienced w...

Performance Prediction of Paging Workloads Using Lightweight Tracing

A trace of a workload’s system calls can be obtained with minimal interference, and can be used to drive repeatable experiments to evaluate system configuration alternatives. Replaying system call traces alone sometimes leads to inaccurate predictions because paging, and access to memorymapped files, are not modelled. This paper extends tracing to handle such workloads. At trace capture time, t...

An Innovative Rigid Tray Technique as a New Alternative Matrix System for Buildup of Severely Damaged Endodontically Treated Teeth (A Case Report)

Direct restoration of severely damaged endodontically treated teeth (ETT) using available and conventional and current matrix systems is sometimes impractical and in some clinical cases is impossible. The aim of this paper is to introduce and describe a new matrix system based on Rigid Tray Technique (RTT) for dealing with such difficult clinical cases.

Application-assisted physical memory management

Many software applications can, in principle, trade main memory consumption for other resources. For instance, garbage collected language runtimes can trade collection overhead for heap size, and many programs can improve their performance by caching data that was precomputed, read from disk or received from the network. Unfortunately, OSs provide little useful information about physical memory...

A Transparent Remote Paging Model for Virtual Machines

In virtual machine systems, with the increase in the number of VMs and the demands of the applications, the main memory is becoming a bottleneck for the application performance. To improve paging performance and alleviating thrashing behavior for memory-intensive or I/O-intensive virtual machine workloads, we proposed hypervisor based remote paging, which allows a virtual machine to transparent...
